so last night i was watching letterman and i laughed at 90% of the jokes. i even cared to see whether or not the wine bottle would float. this is obviously not a good state to be in and i can only think to blame the lack of regular sleep on my fondness for david L making fun of interns. i also decided to test my new electric mixer and make cupcakes at about 10.30. not having one for a very long time i forgot how noisy they are, but after starting i had clearly committed to the cause and so had to continue despite being fairly certain you could hear the churning throughout the entire building. then i figured it's not like i have crazy parties in my one-woman abode so that's probably bought me up some late night electric mixing time. but it probably doesn't help that the night before i made margaritas in my mega ice churning blender at around the same time.
anyway the cupcakes were really average, the recipe was too doughy and now i regret going for the one with the most basic ingredient list. it's much too patty cake for my liking. then i thought i'd make ganache from memory. which actually wasn't such a failed mission but the cupcakes really weren't worth trying to save. i now have 14 lopsided dough balls with ganache and cute metallic looking pearl decorations that i will most likely have to throw out. i've brought some to work to see if anyone's game but it looks like one big 'pass' will be coming my cupcakes way.

I once made a questionable commitment to vacuuming at 11pm. The fact that I had a rent inspection the next morning was justification enough for me though. Also, I have like 1 square metre of floor space.
the only time i'm ever enthusiastic to vacuum is late at night when i should be doing other things - such as work or sleep, or perhaps leaving my neighbours in peace. last weekend in a cleaning bout i decided to vacuum and had to empty the dust. it was really quite gross and has made me re-evaluate my pro-carpeting stance.
I'm a believer in shonky faux parquetry (Heh, faux pas) not because I believe in it as such, but because it's what I've got on my floor. It ain't broken glass and it ain't hot coals, so it's ok with me.
I think you should have said Faux parq, waaaaaaaaay funnier Jeremy.
Hmmm...I dunno? Then it's like 'park', which is a lot less farcical floorboards and a lot more astroturf. Plus it looks like I can't spell.
give the cup cakes to Matt - he'll eat anything.
Oh my god I just saw that you posted this in June - not even Matt will eat cupcakes that old. Sorry.
